Geology of Annette Island

The Island is dominated by Silurian aged quartz diorite. This rock type is probably the best for crushed aggregate.
Other rocks that occur on the island include slightly metamorphosed shales, mudstones, and limestones, and younger intrusive bodies.

Site Suitability

  • Transportation Access:
    The BRAP is accessible by Fish Hatchery Road & is located immediately adjacent to Tamgas Harbor.

  • Power Availability:

  • Purple lake hydro-electric power plant to north of site.

  • Reserves:

  • 200 Mt of acceptable reserves (possibility of much more)

    Overburden Ratio:
    Minimal overburden (muskeg)

    Availability of Water:
    Purple Lake and many streams in project area.

    NIMBY:
    BRAP away from population.
